Ltd (Japan) Construction by : Aranio Lokasi proyek PLTA Riam Kanan terletak di desa Arinawai, Kecamatan Karang Intan, Kabupatren Martapura. Perubahan nama menjadi Aranio tidak diketahui dengan pasti, mungkin penyesuaian dengan 'lidah' Jepang yang turut membangun sebagai Konsultan dan Kontraktor Utama. Untuk menuju lokasi dari Banjarbaru, diperlukan waktu kl setengah sampai 1 jam untuk menempuh jarak 25 km. Setelah mengambil jalan lurus di Simpang Empat (kiri: ke Martapura, kanan: ke Cempaka), akan dilewati Markas Batalyon Raiders, kemudian Mandiangin salah satu tempat wisata. Sebelum memasuki lokasi Proyek, akan dilewati Pos Keamanan di Awangbangkal kemudian Quarry site Tambela, daerah perumahan karyawan (Asrama), barulah berbelok ke kiri menuju Kantor Proyek. Kantor Proyek terdiri dari dua bangunan, sebelah kiri kantor Konsultan Nippon Koei dan sebelah kanan kantor Proyek PLTA Riam Kanan. Jam kerja 08.00 - 16.00, dan antara 12.00-13.00 istrirahat. July 18, 1969: Riam Kanan river flow diversed through Diversion tunnel with the construction of temporary Cofferdam
August - Oct 1969: Cleaned up the river bed and constructed the Cofferdam
January 1970: Foundation of Power statioin was started
1970: Construction of 70 kV Transmission line, 70 kV Cempaka and Banjarmasin Substations, 6 kV Sub-transmission line were started
July - Dec 1970: Construction of Main dam, first stage up to level EL 40.00
May - Oct 1971: Embankment of Main dam, final stage
Dec 1971: Construction of Gates, Penstocks and Turbine Generators were started simultaneously
June 30, 1972: Closing of Diversion tunnel to fill up the Reservoir. It needed six months to reach the minimal water level and started the Turbine Generators commisioning
March 1973: The net head EL 52.50 reached, Turbine generator No 1 and No 2 were tested in full load.
March 29, 1973: Trial operation of Riam Kanan system consist of Generation equipment, transmission lines and substations were successful, and electric energy flowed to Banjarbaru, Martapura and Banjarmasin cities.
Oct 17, 1971: The final embankment of Main Dam by Minister of Public Works, Mr Ir Soetami
July 17, 1972: Beginning of Main Dam and Reservoir utilization were inaugurated by Minister of Public Works, Mr Ir Soetami
April 30, 1973: Inauguration of Riam Kanan Project by the President of Republic of Indonesia, Mr Soeharto
